Training Days

What Are Training Days?

A Training Day is any kind of formal or informal event where junior handlers are given instruction as to the training and handling of pointing dogs with an emphasis on handling dogs in field trials. If the handlers do not have their own dogs, they are often made available by the club members holding the event. Kids of varying experience may attend such an event and instruction should be geared to each individual’s level. Kids of more experience can be asked to help others of less experience thereby fostering good sportsmanship, an important element in the sport of field trialing. Training Days can also include a question and answer period. The goal is the handlers end the day having gained some confidence in their ability to train and handle their dogs. Training Days should be enjoyable events for all who participate.
