2026 John Abbott Youth Field Trial -Preliminary Report
2026 John Abbott Youth Field Trial held on March 15th and hosted by the Pinewoods Bird Dog Club was again a great success. Like the Masters Youth Trial held the previous day, the first brace broke away at 8:00 am in order to get as many dogs run before the forecasted afternoon heat set in. The trial, run on the beautiful Pinion Point Plantation outside of Quitman, GA, drew 11 braces, with 14 different youth handlers running 22 dogs. Birds were plentiful and certainly helped keep the dogs focussed despite the later day heat. Our judges Jim and Mary Ann Womack did a great job which was not without difficulty as so many dogs had good races and bird work. Apprentice judge Kira Jenkins enjoyed riding with Jim and Mary Ann and learning from them. Kira was a very successful youth handler herself and we hope she continues in the sport.
Thanks to Pinion Point Plantation for allowing this trial to take place on this beautiful property. Thanks to the Four Oaks crew, the judges, parents and everyone who came to support the kids. Thanks to sponsors Youth Field Trial Alliance and Purina!
Full report from Maria Bassham still to come.
The winners:
1st: Bay, Griffin Long
2nd: Alfi, Grant McCall
3rd: Charlie, Richard Mooney
Congrats to all!
