Milaca, Minnesota — On June 19th, 2021, The Minnesota Grouse Dog Association, formed in 1979, gathered for the 4th annual summer field trial at Four Brooks WMA. Historically, all other MGDA events are conducted as coverdog trials on wild birds, however the club utilizes a 640 acre trial area in the WMA to hold a planted bird stake in June. Included in this summer event is the popular Youth Stake, which drew six girls and four boys ranging from 3 to 13 years of age to handle dogs on planted bobwhite quail. All youth handlers in this event are awarded a ribbon, as the purpose of this stake is to grow the interest in future generations of field trialers, and the future certainly looks bright! Thank you to all our youth handlers, their families, helpers, and also to Purina for being a steadfast supporting partner.
